Basic Rifle Course
The NRA's Basic Rifle Shooting Course is a class for those desiring the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning, maintaining, and using a rifle safely for target shooting.
Lessons include:
- Rifle Knowledge and Safe Gun Handling
- Ammunition Knowledge
- Fundamentals of Rifle Shooting
- Benchrest, Prone, Sitting, Kneeling, and Standing Shooting Instruction
- Rifle Sports and Activities
This course is 4 hours.
The practical shooting exercises are conducted at an outdoor range. Please dress
appropriately. Eye and ear protection is required. We recommend a high-necked shirt.
Hot brass can cause blisters. Flip-flops, sandals, and bare feet will not be allowed. You must
wear full-coverage shoes such as tennis shoes.
If you are pregnant or nursing, we will require a written doctor's authorization allowing
you to shoot and handle ammunition.
You will need to provide:
- A notebook
- A pen and highlighter
- Eye and ear protection
- Your rifle *
- 100 Rounds of ammunition (minimum)* **
*Firearms are not provided you must bring your own.
**You may bring more ammunition if you desire. You can fire more than 100 rounds if
time permits.
Live ammunition is not allowed in the classroom.
Course Materials, a Completion Certificate, and Range Fees are included in the
$100 course fee. There is a $50 (minimum) non-refundable deposit required for Registration.
If you are unable to attend the class after registering, this deposit will be applied to your next registration.
